Our trifle is less of a recipe and more of an idea: chunks of cake, layered with thick whipped cream, something crunchy, and something saucy. A trifle is a great way to use leftover cake, rescue an ugly cake, breathe new life into some store bought muffins/pound cake, or let a box cake shine.
Ingredients
- 250 g heavy cream
- 75 g sugar
- 10 g vanilla
- Leftover cake scraps (or a baked box cake, store bought pound cake, muffins, etc)
- Crunchy fillings: cookie pieces, candy bar chunks, pretzels, nuts, etc
- Sauce filling: jam or preserves, cheesecake filling, chocolate ganache, caramel sauce, peanut butter, custard, pudding, Nutella, lemon curd, etc.
Instructions
- To make whipped cream: place heavy cream, vanilla and sugar in your stand mixer with a whisk attachment. Whisk on high until you see stiff peaks. Be sure to not overmix or you’ll end up with sweet butter!
- Working in layers assemble the trifle. Start with a layer of cake, top with whipped cream, then the sauce filling and crunchy fillings on top. Repeat until you’ve reached the top of your container. Ideally you’ll have at least 2-3 layers of trifle with whipped cream at the top.
- Finish with sprinkles and edible glitter.
